LGBTQ+ πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Hatred – It needs to stop | Vol.6

This wasn’t an intended blog post but I feel compelled to write this after stuff I’ve seen in the past few days. I’ve seen many cases of abuse against people who identify as LGBTQ+ and it’s been shocking and appalling to read. I’m not going to talk about me personally and this is generally – like all my posts – an opinion piece.

In the past few days I’ve seen abhorrent, obnoxious and demeaning attacks and slanders against people who identify as something over than straight. And to put it blatantly, it’s disgusting.

Why? It’s the 21st century! And although you always hear that phrase – it’s true! Why should people have to go around fearful of opinions of other people and feel like they can not express themselves for who they truly are? Society should be accepting and welcoming of people of all sexual orientations, races and backgrounds – not discriminating against them and making them feel ashamed of who they are.

In the last couple of decades – society and a majority of countries have had a positive developing change of mindsets on people who identify as LGBTQ+. A drastic turnaround from the view that was held traditionally years ago – and that’s a great thing. However I’m starting to worry that we are slipping backwards in our general perceptions of people and how we see others.

Many people still hold a welcoming and accepting view to people that are LGBTQ+, there is no doubting that and it’s great. However there are also views that are stemming from younger people that it is wrong to be gay and you should be persecuted for that. There are still people growing up that feel they can not express themselves for who they truly are – and that shouldn’t be happening in this day and age.

So my message and sentiment behind this post is that people need to grow up, face reality and society, and be accepting of others. And although this view has been held for years and years, it can not disappear – be proud of who you are, and don’t let anyone change the person you want to be.

Thank you for reading this blog post – I’ve got some interesting ones planned for the future!
